Antibes is one of the iconic places to visit in the riviera. It has a very lively town centre and an interesting terrain, coupled with nice restaurants. You have to be careful though. Let me tell you why:
When we first arrived to Antibes, we parked our car to hotels garage and let ourselves directly to he beach. It seemed okay as a seaside village but not gave us the wow factor we were expecting.
The beaches were sandy and fine but when you face the land you only see some ugly buildings. What separates the sandy beaches from the hotels and those buildings is the main road which leads to Juan Les Pins. When looking it you say, well I’m in riviera in a decent beach but apart from this feeling the landscape is not cutting edge.
Later in the evening, we figured out the real buzz, which is when you walk to the opposite direction. Walk 5 minutes from the Promenade Amiral de Grasse street, and you witness an impressive landscape. Historic structures, a beautiful marina and a beach. When you get close you figure out the local inner streets of the Antibes town as well. It’s at that point we realised that there is also this side of the Antibes. Long story short, that walk is a must if you are staying in the other end of the town.
A small tip: All Along the Promenade Amiral de Grasse street there are some very nice restaurants. Though we couldn’t find a place in either of them but luckily ended up in a very nice seafood restaurant inside the town.
